DO NOT SHAVE

Pomeranians and Chihuahuas are not supposed to be shaved. When Pomeranians are panting that does not mean they are overheating, they are regulating their body temperature. Its important to make sure they are properly groomed so they can regulate their temperature. If you cannot keep up with brushing DO NOT GET A DOUBLE COATED DOG.

We recommend a 10 inch metal comb to get the under coat out (pictured to the left) and a slicker brush(pictured to the right) to brush the top of the coat. Do keep in mind the slicker coat will only brush the top of the coat, so a comb is crucial to get the under coat brushed,

Nails

Chihuahuas are known to have long quicks (the blood vessel in the nail) so it's important to start them early with nail clipping or nail filing (such as a dremal). So, when they are older it's not a hard task for a groomer or for you to do.  Long nails can lead to pain, altered gait, and orthopedic issues.

Note: Dremal gets the nail shorter and rounds the nail, so they are not sharp after getting a trim. It's important to get the baby use to the vibrations of the Dremal. You can go to a grooming salon such as PetSmart every few weeks to work with getting the baby familiar with the dremal if that's something your not comfortble doing yourself.
