Hypoglycemia

Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar.Puppies, especially those under 3 months of age, have not fully developed their ability to regulate their blood glucose. So going without food for a certain amount of time can cause what we refer to as a "sugar crash."

How to tell a Hypoglacima episode?

You Can Tell the start of a sugar crash by a puppy not being as active. The longer the puppy is left untreated, he/she will no longer stand and will just want to lay. The puppy will eventually start to have seizures and can lead to death if not treated.

What to have on hand...

Having things in hand that are high in sugar like honey, dyne, and karo syrup before bringing home a new puppy are important. As soon as you notice your puppy isn't as active, you can give them a little bit of one of these options. We personally only use dyne, In cases of limpness or not wanting to stand mix the dyne with water and give syringes in the back of the throat making sure they are swallowing and head to the vet ASAP.
